Tenerife Walking Festival

Xwander is taking part in the Walking Festival, which is organized by the tourism board of Tenerife. The festival will take place from the 22nd to 26th of May 2018. The best companies in Tenerife are providing professional guiding services for all the different types of hikes and trails around Tenerife, and Xwander is one of them.

The festival features all in all 20 different walks and hikes from Wednesday to Saturday, as well as very interesting lectures – not forgetting the opening and closing ceremonies. From Wednesday to Friday the official bar of the event opens at 19:00 in the Plaza del Charco with entertainment and special offers for the participants every night.

Xwander’s enthusiastic and outdoorsy guides will be leading the way on three different hikes, two coastal hikes on Thursday and Friday, and on Saturday on one hike in the forest. Tenerife’s coastal trails offer amazing views to the ocean and Tenerife’s beautiful nature. The first hike on Thursday 24th, a medium level route from Cruz del Carmen to Punta de Hidalgo, is the first officially approved trail in Tenerife, with the length of 10,4 kilometers. We start the hike going through the evergreen laurisilva forests, maybe even walking through clouds. After the greenest parts of Tenerife, we descend the coastline on a narrow path, while enjoying spectacular views.

As we approach the hamlet of Chinamada, we will pass traditional cave dwellings and rugged ravines. Our hike will finish by the pools created by one of the last volcanic eruptions in Anaga – and of course, with a chance to dip into the water and relax. After a refreshing swim in the pools of Punta del Hidalgo, we will enjoy Casa de la Miel and el Vino’s tasty wines and delicacies.

The second coastal route, on Friday the 25th, takes us from Afur to the village of Taganana, a medium/high level 8-kilometer trail passing authentic cave houses and high cliffs. We start our hike from the remote hamlet of Afur, through beautiful ravines with small waterfalls and finishing the route in Taganana to taste the local wines.

On Saturday the 26th we will discover more of Tenerife’s most magical location, Anaga. The green trails take you through the lush and humid laurisilva forest, which is green all year round due to the trade winds and the hanging clouds. The medium level route from Cruz del Carmen to Tegueste will be 9,2 kilometers of walking in the mystical shadows of the ancient laurisilva forest, passing Monterrey pines and finishing the route in the rural Municipality of Tegueste, named after the old Guanche kingdom – Menceyato de Tegueste.

Hope that you booked your ticket and that we’ll see you on the trails with us – remember proper footwear and enough sunscreen! The Walking Festival is a yearly event, so if you were too late to get a ticket this time, make sure to book one next year. Maybe we’ll even see you in the evenings in the Plaza del Charco. Strap your hiking boots and join us, let’s discover the amazing trails of Tenerife together!
